We at Baker & McKenzie indisputably have the leading European telecommunications law practice with specialist telecommunications law teams in all of the EU jurisdictions in which we operate (Belgium, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, The Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Sweden and the UK).  We also have a very strong practice in, Egypt, Russia and Switzerland.

We have a long history of work in the area, having developed our telecommunications practice since the start of deregulation, working with many of the largest telecommunications operators as well as new entrants, regulators and governments.

Our European Telecommunications Practice has unparalleled experience in managing a wide range of telecommunications related projects, including:

• regulatory appeals, dispute resolution and challenging the regulator - we regularly challenge decisions of national regulatory authorities, such as Germany's RegTP.  We have successfully challenged the UK's Ofcom on numerous occasions before the specialist appeal court in the UK, the Competition Appeal Tribunal, which hears regulatory appeals in the communications sector.  We also act on competition law cases, which often overlap with regulatory issues - a seamless approach is often needed.  Further, our disputes resolution practice handles major litigation in the telecommunications area.
• spectrum and licensing issues - we regularly advise on issues relating to the award of spectrum, including 'refarming' (the freeing up of restricted-use spectrum for other uses) and any licences needed.
• diverse contractual matters - our experience covers the wide-range of contractual matters that clients face, including dispute resolution in the four month time period provided for in the EU.
• protection of intellectual property rights - our IP team can cover all your IP needs, from brand protection to patent litigation.
• investments, acquisitions and joint ventures - we have a long track record of mergers and joint ventures for our clients.
• outsourcing - we are a leading advisor on major outsourcing deals.  We advised Hutchison 3G on its outsourcing to Ericsson and have advised numerous other multinationals on all relevant issues.
